OAKLAND -- A 15-year-old girl is recovering after being shot Monday evening in East Oakland, police said.

The shooting happened about 5:53 p.m. in the 8700 block of MacArthur Boulevard.

The girl was confronted by a man with a gun and when she tried to run away, she was shot in the buttocks, according to police.

The gunman fled and the girl was able to run to nearby Youth Uprising center, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening youth leadership.

The girl was hospitalized but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said they don't have a motive yet for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

Police CrimeStoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
