RICHMOND -- A man was life-flighted to a hospital after he was shot multiple times while sitting in his car Saturday night, a fire department official said.

Around 8:20 p.m., police and paramedics responded to Giant and Atlas roads for reports of shots fired.

It is unclear what led to the shooting, and Richmond police were not immediately available for comment.

Richmond Fire Department Battalion Chief Merlin Turner said the man was shot three times, but could not comment on the severity of the man's injuries.

There was no word on whether any suspects had been identified.

This is the second shooting in the past 48 hours for Richmond. On Thursday night, Mercedes Williams, 19, and her brother Airian Holly, 16, were standing outside their home in the Parchester Village neighborhood when they were shot and killed by two still-unidentified suspects.
