OAKLAND -- Police surrounded an East Oakland home for several hours overnight where they believed a shooting suspect was barricaded but abandoned the operation when the man could not be located.

The suspect was wanted in a shooting at a home on the 1800 block of 90th Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Monday night, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.

The victim gave police information on the suspect and he was traced to a home in the 1100 block 65th Avenue. Police, including and Oakland SWAT hostage negotiators, surrounded the house but discovered after entering the home at 6:08 a.m. Tuesday that the suspect was not there, Watson said.

The victim in the shooting was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
