OAKLAND -- A tractor-trailer truck that strayed a little too close to the tracks was clipped by an Amtrak train near Jack London Square Tuesday morning, officials said.

The truck was about to pick up cable at the PG&E station on Jefferson Street, near the railroad tracks, when the eastbound train sheared off its fender and wheel well about 10:20 a.m., police said.

No injuries were reported by the driver or anyone on the train, which was empty except for a skeleton crew. The train was halted on the tracks, about a half-mile from the Amtrak station at Embarcadero, after the incident.
