HAYWARD -- Two employees of a coffee shop at an A Street carwash plan to donate one day's tips next week to Asian Health Services, which is sponsoring National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on May 18.

Alan Voorhees, the owner of the On The Way Cafe, and cafe employee Jojo Soresca, will save their tips on May 1 to donate to the awareness effort.

The cafe is located in Hutch's Car Wash, at 1367 A Street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesday.

The National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on May 18 will feature a Yogathon, with four different instructors, to raise funds for Asian Health Serivces, which is working to get more people in the community tested for HIV. The organization says one in three Asian and Pacific Islanders with HIV does not know that he or she has the virus.

The Yogathon and awareness day will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18, at Madison Square Park, 849 Madison St., Oakland.
