ALAMO -- A 24-year-old Alamo man died early Friday morning when he lost control of a car he was driving and crashed into telephone pole, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
Police said William Schramm was driving east on Stone Valley Road at 2:08 a.m., about 100 feet west of the Roundhill Road intersection when the wreck occurred.
The 2003 gray Toyota Camry drifted left, hit a curb and veered into the pole, Officer John Fransen said.
Why Schramm lost control is still being investigated, but it appears excessive speed may have been a factor, Fransen said. He was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head trauma, Fransen said.
A passenger may have been in the car but was not at the scene when police arrived, Fransen said.
Stone Valley Road was closed near the intersection while PG&E repaired the power pole, Evans said. No outages were reported in the area. The road was reopened by 8 a.m.
