OAKLAND -- The Alameda County-Oakland Community Action Partnership will host the eighth annual "Walk to End Poverty" May 18 at Lake Merritt.
Registration for the free walk is at 9 a.m. by the bandstand and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. There will be snacks, water and lunch for participants. The event will include a community fair, live entertainment, boating, and activities for children.
The first 400 walkers who bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the food drive will receive a free T-shirt. All food items will be donated to the Alameda County Community Food Bank that serves 49,000 residents every week, nearly half of them children and teens. Do not bring glass containers.
