PIEDMONT -- A woman and four teenagers were arrested Saturday afternoon after a patrol officer spotted them traveling in a stolen car, police said.

Officer Steve DeWarns initially considered the white 1994 Ford Crown Victoria suspicious because it was cruising slowly through the neighborhood of Nova Drive and Magnolia Avenue and because the driver immediately pulled over when she noticed his patrol car, police said.

As DeWarns was learning the car was reported stolen in Oakland through a routine records check, the woman and the teens exited and began walking away, Piedmont police Capt. Scott Wyatt said.

The officer held the group at gunpoint until help arrived, Wyatt said.

Investigators identified the woman as Alicia Bolton, 19, of Oakland. The juveniles are two girls, who are 15 and 16 and live in Oakland, a 15-year-old boy from Sacramento and another boy, 14, who lives in Oakland. Their names were not disclosed because they are minors.

Bolton and the teens, who were arrested about 5:30 p.m., were booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, police said.
