Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) is hosting a big dog adoption event this weekend. All dogs 50 pounds and more can be adopted for only $50. The shelter has many wonderful big dogs looking for their forever home. Here are some of the big dogs waiting to meet you.
GRETA is a beautiful black, tricolor pit bull and hound mix of about 2 years. She's a sweet dog that rides well in the car and is very smart. Greta is very playful and loves to be petted. When introduced to another dog at the shelter, she did really well.
TYE is a handsome 3-year-old neutered brindled-and-white pit bull mix. He came to the shelter along with another big dog, NOGGIN. TYE and NOGGIN are friendly and eager to please. They have been in the shelter for about six months and are eagerly awaiting their new homes. They do not need to be adopted together.
HANK is a handsome 3-year-old neutered male yellow Labrador retriever and pit bull mix. He has a goofy character typical of the Labrador breed. He loves to play with toys and is especially fond of tug-of-war. Hank would be an excellent pet for someone who wants an activity partner dog. He would love to go hiking or jogging with you.
Basic obedience training is recommended for all the dogs adopted from FAAS. You can find photos of these great dogs, and all the other big dogs available at http://www.alamedaanimalshelter.org/petfinder. The dogs have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and checked for proper health and behavior. To adopt, you'll need to show that your lease allows dogs if you rent or show proof of homeownership. Visit the shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday or Sunday.
FAAS has another dog-themed event coming up soon. The second annual Wiggle Waggle Walk will be held June 15 at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal. It will be bigger and better than last year. Register at http://faas2ndannualwigglewagglewalk.eventbrite.com and get ready for a fun day. You don't need to have a dog to attend this great event.
