ALAMEDA -- Fountains, flowers, fruit trees, pergolas, potting sheds and peaceful pathways. These are a sampling of the outdoor treats on display at annual Gardens Galore tour May 19.

Enjoy a Tuscan-style garden with sculptured shrubs. Smell the roses and glean ideas from the six residential gardens in varying locations in town.

This is the 19th year of the self-guided tour, a fundraiser hosted by the St. Joseph Garden Club. Proceeds go toward scholarships for students of the two St. Joseph schools and to Alameda charities. Last year's tour drew more than 400 visitors who enjoyed such sights as weeping cherry trees, dogwood, and a Japanese-American garden with a koi pond.

The tour will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. Rain will not cancel the event. A garden boutique will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Joseph Notre Dame, which is where the tour will begin. Home and garden items will be sold. The school is located at 1011 Chestnut St.

Tickets are $20 in advance and must be ordered no later than May 16. Checks may be made payable to the St. Joseph Garden Club and sent to 861 Oak St., Alameda, CA 94501.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Thomsen's Garden Center, 1113 Lincoln Avenue, Alameda, or Daisy's, 1347 Park Street, Alameda. For more information, call 510-995-9544.

Tickets at the door the day of the tour will be $25.
