Annalee Allen, a frequent contributor to the Oakland Tribune, has been named Oakland's 2013 Mother of the Year.

Allen and her husband Jim have three sons, although the award honors women who have contributed mightily to the city, whether or not they have any children.

Allen has volunteered with more than 20 community organization. For nearly two decades, she has coordinated the city's Oakland Tours Program, which leads walking tours of the city's downtown. She also has published three books on Oakland history, including a selection of columns written for the Oakland Tribune.

Allen will receive the honor during a ceremony scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Morcom Rose Garden, 700 Jean St.
