SAN LEANDRO -- Two men have been arrested on an armed robbery charge in connection with a gold chain robbery that took place Thursday afternoon, police said.

Tamayo Bernardo, 31, of Livermore, and Eli Perez, 23, of Oakland, were arrested Thursday following the 5 p.m. stickup in the 13800 block of Bancroft Avenue near 138th Avenue, said Lt. Randy Brandt.

The victim, a 21-year-old San Leandro man, told officers he was approached by the suspects in a parking lot and that one of the men was armed with a handgun.

The suspects ripped a gold chain from his neck, then ran toward Bancroft Avenue, Brandt said.

"The victim immediately reported the incident to our dispatch center and units from all divisions started looking for the suspects," Brandt said.

About 30 minutes later, San Leandro police detectives located the suspects in Oakland, arrested them and recovered the stolen property.

"Our team approach to reducing crime continues to be effective," Brandt said. "This starts from community members not hesitating to call. Our staff immediately acts on the information they provide and searches for those suspects deemed responsible."
