FREMONT -- Police say two masked gunman robbed and assaulted a resident as he checked his mailbox on Wednesday night.

The man was not seriously injured.

Officers were dispatched at 10:20 p.m. to the 2800 block of Sanderling Drive for a report of an armed robbery outside a home there, said police Spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

The victim told officers that he and his wife had returned home and after pulling into the garage, his wife walked into the house.

With his computer bag on his shoulder, the man walked to the mailbox. As he opened it,

two men armed with guns approached from behind. One suspect grabbed the bag and pushed the victim to the ground as the other pointed a gun at him, Bosques said.

The victim heard the suspects drive away in a car, but did not see it, Bosques said.

Several neighbors have video surveillance cameras and officers plan to review the footage, police said.

The suspects were described as being about 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-7, with skinny builds, and wore a black ski masks with only eyes and mouth showing.

Both suspects wore black clothing and were armed with black semi-automatic pistols.
