OAKLAND -- A 17-year-old boy shot multiple times Friday night in North Oakland was on life support Saturday at a hospital and is not expected to recover, authorities said.
Police identified the youth Saturday afternoon but are not releasing his name. Investigators said he had addresses in both Oakland and Berkeley.
The shooting happened about 9:59 p.m. Friday in the 6100 block of Adeline Street about one block from the Berkeley border in a mixed residential and commercial area.
Initial media reports that the shooting was in the 6100 block of Shattuck Avenue were incorrect, authorities said.
The teen was found on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds, including a head wound, authorities said.
Police still don't know what he was doing there, said Sgt. Mike Gantt.
Gantt said police don't have a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the gunman. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call investigators at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
