A mentally-ill woman took a Kaiser Permanente nurse hostage at knifepoint early Wednesday, triggering a hostage situation the Vallejo Police Department diffused with no one suffering major injuries, Sgt. Brett Clark said.
At 6:04 a.m. police were called after receiving word the 62-year-old woman was holding the nurse inside a nutrition center on the hospital's fourth floor on Sereno Drive, Clark said.
Apparently, the woman was distraught at being unable to speak to a particular doctor, Clark said. The woman also allegedly smuggled in a 4-inch serrated, razor-style knife in her purse which would have been capable of slitting the nurse's throat and doing major damage, Clark said.
Beside the knife, the woman apparently also had wrapped a stethoscope around the nurse's throat, threatening to choke her, Clark said.
