OAKLAND -- The body of a 73-year-old man who walked away from his Alameda home Wednesday morning was found floating in the estuary off the Grand Street boat marina a few hours later, police said.

A spokeswoman from the Alameda County Coroner's office identified the man as Hing Chiu Uyiu, who was reported missing about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

A passer-by spotted the body at the marina at 2099 Grand St about 11:15 a.m. and called police, Alameda police Lt. Ted Horlbeck said.

Police and firefighters responded to the marina and a rescue swimmer pulled the body from the water, said Alameda Fire Capt. Jim Colburn.

Uyiu was taken to Alameda Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. Horlbeck said foul play is not suspected in the death.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week. Authorities will be trying to determine if Uyiu may have slipped and fell into the water and drowned, or if he had a medical condition that caused him to lose consciousness and fall into the water.
