Maddie's Fund Pet Adoption Days are coming on June 1-2. This free adoption event is the biggest in the country, and Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter hopes to empty the FAAS shelter of adoptable pets to qualified homes.
FAAS will have available pets at two locations: the shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda and Bay Fair Mall in San Leandro. Most shelters and rescue groups in Alameda and Contra Costa County are participating in this exciting two-day adoption extravaganza. Now Maddie's Fund has expanded beyond the Bay Area this year to include shelters across the country.
FAAS is filled with healthy dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, so if you've been thinking about adopting a pet, June 1-2 is the right time to get your new best friend. Check out the FAAS animals online at www.AlamedaAnimalShelter.org. In addition to the online photos, FAAS has 25-30 adorable kittens that will be available at the Maddie's event.
To adopt from FAAS, all household members must meet the animal. This includes your dog if you want to adopt a dog. If you rent, bring your lease showing you can have a pet. If you own, bring proof of homeownership.
Check out the newest ice cream flavor at Tucker's Ice Cream in Alameda. It's Canine Crunch, a tasty blend of chocolate, orange, English toffee and caramel swirl. And the best news is proceeds from the sale of Canine Crunch benefit the homeless pets at FAAS. A very special thanks goes to Tucker's Ice Cream and to Pat Finnegan and Mary Coussan, who invented the new flavor after winning the coveted "Ice Cream Makers For A Day" auction item at the FAAS "After The Ball" event last October.
PET OF THE WEEK: ZORRO is a sweet little Chihuahua mix who loves to play. He is a great fit for a moderately active home.
DOG ALLEY: There are 27 available dogs at the Alameda Animal Shelter. BUBBLEGUM is a white/tan Jack Russell mix. She is a sensitive, gentle little dog who would like an adult-only home. SHEEBA is a brown/tan Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix about 1.5 years old. She is a shy, pretty little gal.
CAT LAIR: There are 29 available cats at the Alameda Animal Shelter. O'MALLEY is a 2-month old orange tabby kitten, adorable and delightful. MCGRUFF is a 4 year old, beautiful Abyssinian. Don't let his name fool you! He is a sweet guy once he gets to know you.
