OAKLAND -- An Oakland man out celebrating his 29th birthday was shot early Friday during a robbery after leaving a downtown nightclub, police said.
The suspects did not take anything from the man but did rob a 26-year-old San Francisco woman with him of her jacket, police said.
The man, whose name was not released, was in critical but stable condition with a wound to the abdomen. He is expected to recover.
The man, whose birthday is May 23, had just left a nearby club with the woman and two other people and were walking back to their car about 12:25 a.m. Friday when they were confronted by three men in the 1900 block of San Pablo Avenue, Officer Roy Flecklin said.
One of the suspects had a gun and the woman was forced to give up her jacket, police said.
The man was then shot before he gave the suspects anything, police said. No one else was injured.
The suspects were last seen running away eastbound on William Street.
Police are trying to determine if the same suspects were part of a group of five, including one with a gun, who robbed two other people sitting in a parked car on the same block about 8:18 p.m. Thursday.
A 62-year-old Oakland man was robbed of his wallet. A 61-year-old Suisun woman had her purse and cell phone taken. No one was injured.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the two cases. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or a tip line at 510-773-2805.
