RICHMOND -- Friends and family members of a 64-year-old Richmond woman shot and killed earlier this month are holding a memorial service on Saturday to say goodbye to the woman they affectionately called "Granny."

A gathering is planned at 4:30 p.m. at the apartment complex Bonnita Todd called home at 167 20th Street. Todd was a fixture among the tight-knit community at the two-story apartment complex, neighbors say, and was known as the neighbors' watchdog and sage.

She was shot and killed the evening of May 15 when someone fired more than a dozen rounds through her apartment's wall. Detectives believe her son, a freelance auto mechanic, was the target and the shooter may have been a disgruntled customer. No arrests have been made.

Anyone who knew her is encouraged to attend Saturday's service, said friend and neighbor Cymande Russell.

"We'll be able to say goodbye," Russell said. "We're her family."
