NEWARK -- Police are asking the public to keep an eye out for stolen sentimental yard art that belongs to a 7-year-old autistic girl who lives in the city with her family.

About 11 a.m. on May 28 someone took the art, of a pink pig riding a bicycle with rainbow-colored wheels, from a yard of a home in the 6200 block of Dairy Avenue, said Officer Jeff Neithercutt.

The art, valued at about $45, was given to the girl by her grandfather from Japan and has significant meaning to her because of her disability, Neithercutt said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact the department's nonemergency line at 510-578-4237. Information can also be left anonymously on the "silent witness" hotline at 510-578-4000, extension 500.
