SUNNYVALE -- Yahoo employees were evacuated Monday morning from the complex at 701 1st Ave. after the workers opened a package containing a suspicious white powder that was later determined to be harmless.

Sunnyvale police said they were called to the scene around 9:45 a.m. after two employees reported being exposed to the powder in a mailroom after opening a package addressed to one of them.

While the employees didn't have any medical symptoms, they were isolated as a precaution and other employees were evacuated from the mail room while crews determined the nature of the substance.

It was first determined to contain "proteins," police said, and further testing revealed it to be vitamin C. Employees were allowed back into the building around 1:15 p.m., police said.

Nine Sunnyvale crews consisting of 20 personnel were aided by Santa Clara County fire and ambulance staff during the incident.
