Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) had 43 adoptions last weekend during the Maddie's Pet Adoption Days.

Adoptions to the public were free, and FAAS will receive money from Maddie's Fund for each adoption. It was a great win-win weekend for the adopted pets and FAAS.

Alameda's biggest dog extravaganza is only one week away. Wiggle Waggle Walk is happening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15, at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal. This fun-filled event is for humans and dogs alike. There will be a mile walk along San Francisco Bay, a doggy fashion show, contests including "Spin the Wheel," lots of great food and various pet products and services to enjoy. The event is a fundraiser for FAAS. The registration fee is $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the event. You can register and collect pledges at http://faas2ndannualwigglewagglewalk.eventbrite.com or send your registration to FAAS, 1590 Fortmann Way, Alameda 94501.

June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month. Please consider adopting your next cat or kitten at FAAS. There are many wonderful healthy felines there in need of good homes. If you cannot adopt, there are other ways to help. You can volunteer to care for felines in the shelter or foster cats and kittens in your home. To become a volunteer for FAAS, please visit our volunteer web page at http://www.alamedaanimalshelter.org/volunteer/.

The Alameda Animal Shelter has been undergoing a major internal beautification. Visit the shelter and see the newly painted internal walls and resurfaced floors. The place is sparkling. FAAS especially wants to thank the Humane Society of Alameda for paying the cost of resurfacing the kennel floors. This very expensive undertaking was completely underwritten by them. Three Cheers for the Humane Society of Alameda!

FAAS also thanks LaVal's of Alameda for donating the proceeds of the recent 50/50 raffle from the June 6 Hot Rods@Harbor Bay car show. If you missed this unique car event, the next one will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 1.

PET OF THE WEEK: Meet Eddie, a 3-year-old sweetheart Pomeranian and shibah inu mix who loves people and toys.

DOG ALLEY: FAAS has 16 great dogs available. SHEBA is a 1-year-old spayed female miniature pinscher mix, cute, black and tan. GUS is a Chihuahua mix puppy, full of love and energy.

CAT LAIR: FAAS has 29 cats and kittens available for adoption. MILO is a 5-year-old handsome orange tabby who is a laid-back kind of guy. KIT is a beautiful smoky gray cat, about 2 years old and very sweet.
