CASTRO VALLEY -- Two pedestrians suffered major injuries after being hit by a car at the entrance of Lake Chabot Regional Park on Friday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported at 7:20 p.m. at 17500 Lake Chabot Road, a CHP dispatcher said. Both pedestrians were awake and alert when paramedics arrived; they were taken to a trauma center.

Officials did not immediately say if the driver was detained or if they believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
