The 2nd Annual Wiggle Waggle Walk is Saturday! Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) is having this fun event to raise money for Alameda's homeless pets.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal and is for people and dogs, too. It features a mile walk along San Francisco Bay, a doggy fashion show, some fun dog and people contests, great food and vendors with pet products. To find out more, and to register, visit the FAAS website at www.AlamedaAnimalShelter.org or just go to the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal at 11 a.m. Saturday.

FAAS is very grateful for the generous donations made to the shelter in memory of Cliff Maderia, Jr. Cliff was an avid animal lover who found the dog of his dreams at FAAS.

Last August, while sitting in an Alameda restaurant with his partner, Deborah, he saw a FAAS dog adoption ad and suggested they go look at the dog (named Clover). They came to the shelter and found Clover who charmed them by kissing Deborah's extended hand. Less than an hour later, she was walking out shelter door with Cliff and Deborah, heading for a great new life.

One of Cliff's favorite activities with Clover was to drive to a local pet store on a weekly basis and buy toys for her. They accumulated many toys over a short period of time, and Clover loved being surrounded with her people and toys.

Sadly, a few months after adopting Clover, Cliff was diagnosed with a rare and untreatable cancer, and passed away with Deborah and Clover by his side. Because of the generosity of all who knew Mr. Maderia and made donations in his memory, FAAS has added his name to a plaque in the shelter lobby where people can remember their loved ones with a donation of $500 or more. To learn more about this way to honor the memory of a beloved person or pet, please call FAAS at 510-337-8565.
