A burglar who broke into a home on Pacific Avenue made off with the victim's vehicle after finding its key inside the residence and stealing it, police said.

The theft was reported about 12:40 p.m. on June 5 in the 200 block of the street.

Another burglary was reported the same day at 12:50 a.m. in the 300 block of Pacific Avenue -- or just a block away -- where the resident interrupted someone stealing tools from their garage, prompting the suspect to flee, police said.

Patrol officers searched the neighborhood, but did not find anyone who matched the suspect's description. It was not immediately available whether investigators were linking the two burglaries.

Among the steps that police recommend people take to avoid becoming a burglary victim are making sure their property is well-lit, and to trim bushes away from windows to prevent the shrubbery from concealing someone carrying out a break-in.

People should also make sure their doors and windows are locked, especially when they are away from home.

Police also remind residents to immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
