OAKLAND -- A 21-year-old man was charged with murder Friday for the April 20 fatal shooting of a former friend outside an East Oakland liquor store, police said.
Jason Hall, of Oakland, is charged with killing Marcus L. Evans, 22, of Oakland in what police said was the culmination of a personal dispute. Hall declined to talk to investigators after his arrest June 13.
The shooting, which police said was witnessed by several people, happened about 4 p.m. April 20 outside a liquor store in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard. Evans died early the next day at a hospital.
Police said the two men had been friends until a recent personal dispute. Police would not say what the dispute was about.
Officer Phong Tran said the men got into a physical fight which ended with Evans being shot outside the store.
Witnesses identified Hall is the gunman and a probable cause warrant was issued for his arrest, Tran said.
Hall was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on June 13 after the vehicle he was driving was stopped for speeding on Interstate 580 in the Hayward area. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
