HAYWARD -- Two men struck and killed by BART trains in separate incidents less than eight hours apart Tuesday were identified Wednesday, though officials were not certain how they ended up on the tracks.
The first incident happened around 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, as a man was killed after being struck by a train at the Colma station. That man was identified by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office as Lawrence Yaghmour, 41, of Daly City.
Officials have not yet said how Yaghmour ended up on the tracks.
About seven hours later, another man was struck and killed by a Daly City-bound BART train at the Hayward station. He was identified Wednesday as Cecilio Profeta Santiago, Jr., of San Leandro, according to the Alameda County Coroner's office.
Santiago, age 63, was killed by a northbound train about 4:18 p.m., a BART police spokesman said. Police investigators have not yet announced Santiago's manner of death, but on Wednesday, a coroner's spokeswoman said it appeared that he jumped in front of the train.
The station was shut down until 7:06 p.m. until authorities could remove Santiago's body.
