This past weekend, more than 100 people and their dogs raised needed funds for Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) at their second annual Wiggle Waggle Walk. They raised more than $13,000 for the homeless pets of Alameda. This will go a long way to feed and care for them while they wait for their new homes.

Wiggle Waggle Walk is a great example of a fun activity with your pet. We often get so focused on behavior and training that we forget about having fun. If you have a dog, fun and bonding experiences are as simple as walking and interacting with your dog. Many dogs love to hike, play at the park and learn new skills. If you have a good dog that plays well with others, you can go to the dog park and play. Depending on the dog park rules, you might be able to do a dog party with the other dogs.

Cats need play and enrichment, too, for without these they may pester you at inappropriate times. Here are a few activities that can go a long way toward strengthening the bond between you and your cat. Paw hockey, all you need is a smooth surfaced floor; add a piece of aluminum in the shape of a hockey puck that you can flick across the floor to kitty. A stick with a toy at the end of the string or light rope can entertain your cat and reinforce your bond. Remember to let kitty catch the toy; they need to win the game. If you have other pets you can search online for fun activities designed for you and your pet.
