LIVERMORE -- The city of Livermore will celebrate its place on the periodic table of the elements with a ceremony dedicating a plaza to Livermorium on June 24.

The public is invited to join mayor John Marchand, city councilmembers and scientists from Livermore and Russia for the formal dedication of Livermorium Plaza at Mills Square Park at 4 p.m. The park is at Livermore Avenue and First Street.

The occasion recognizes the work of scientists from Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and a team of collaborators from the Flerov Institute in Dubna, Russia. Their research resulted in the creation of Elements 114 and 116 -- named Flerovium and Livermorium respectively. Russian scientists involved in the project and other dignitaries will be in attendance at the dedication.
