SAN LORENZO -- The Alameda County Coroner's Office on Sunday was working to identify two elderly sisters found dead and in a state of decomposition inside a San Lorenzo home late last week.
The women, ages 88 and 94, were found inside a home on Elgin Street on Friday after a letter carrier reported the sisters had not picked up their mail in some time, said Alameda County Sheriff's Office Sgt. J.D. Nelson.
Their bodies were heavily decomposed and at least one of the women had been dead for a significant amount of time, a coroner's deputy said Sunday.
The other sister likely died last week, the deputy said.
Foul play is not suspected, Nelson said, but their cause of death remained under investigation Sunday.
