HAYWARD -- The city has converted a block of B Street, between Foothill Boulevard and Second Street, to a two-way road.

The block had been one-way headed west. B continues to be one-way from Foothill to Watkins Street.

The change made Friday will make it easier for northbound drivers on Foothill to head east on B Street toward Castro Valley. Before, they had to turn right at C Street, go a block to Second and then turn onto B.

It also should make it easier for drivers coming up from Jackson Street onto Foothill to merge over if they want to head east, said Kevin Briggs, city project manager for Route 238 Corridor Improvement Project. They have to cross three lanes of traffic to make the turn.

"It gives people an extra block to get over," Briggs said
