Darting here and there ...
Û So the Warriors got into the draft and took "the European Derrick Rose"? Connecting at a .367 clip as he did last year in the EuroLeague, Nemanja Nedovic sounds closer to Pete Rose.
Û Based on general manager Bob Myers' descriptions of Nedovic -- brash, fearless, slasher -- Nedovic actually sounds like the second coming of Sarunas Marciulionis. That would be more than acceptable ... and realistic.
Û How the Warriors solve their size issues now is a head-scratcher, though. Carl Landry likely gone because of financial constraints, Festus Ezeli out for the first three months next season ... but hey, Andris Biedrins will be back -- along with the last year of his bulky contract at $9 million!
Û If the Warriors take a step backward next year because of the loss of Landry and possibly Jarrett Jack, look no further than the $20 million at the end of the bench in Biedrins' $9 mil and Richard Jefferson's $11 mil. That's roughly a quarter of the team's payroll. Ugh.
Û Hindsight is 20/20, but the decision not to use the one-time amnesty option on Biedrins' contract could turn out to be the nightmare of 2013-14. Charlie Bell's $4 million seems so paltry right now, as it was back when the W's chose that contract to amnesty.
Û Former top Warriors assistant Mike Malone just became an even bigger threat to his old team with the Sacramento Kings' selection of Kansas guard Ben McLemore, the steal of the draft.
Û Nets-Celtics trade: A deal that helped neither team. Boston's now a wasteland, Brooklyn becomes an old folks home.
Û A Raiders Mount Rushmore that doesn't include Jim Otto is nothing more than a hill of beans. But Pro Football Talk's "expert" panel left him off, as did fan voters. Absurd.
Û Top three spots should have been automatic: Al Davis, John Madden, Otto. No. 4 open to debate among Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, Willie Brown, Tim Brown, Ken Stabler, Marcus Allen, Howie Long and Fred Biletnikoff. You really couldn't go wrong with any of them.
Û We're betting Al would have picked Shell, so that's our choice, too. One thing's certain, Davis would not have approved of sharing a mountain with Marcus.
Û In detailing what Aaron Hernandez had for his first breakfast in jail, it's interesting to note that he was served Tang to drink instead of O.J.
Û Wow, the Patriots are offering free jersey exchanges for any fans who bought one with Hernandez's name and number on it. Smacks of a bit much. Would the Pats have given back a Super Bowl trophy if Hernandez had caught the winning TD in one?
Û The Giants have had a devil of a time without Angel Pagan, and with the development that he likely won't be back this year, it's sobering. It's not just the production. He was such a large part of the club's swagger.
Û Heading into Friday, the Giants were faced with having to go 52-32 over their final 84 games just to get to 90 wins. The only saving grace is it may not take 90 to win the National League West.
Û Just Throwing It Out There Dept.: Giants trade territorial rights to San Jose to A's for a corner outfielder and starting pitcher. Oakland has much depth in both areas of desperate Giants need. Beats a messy lawsuit, if you ask us.
Û Bruce Bochy is simply wrong in his All-Star assessment of Yasiel Puig. It doesn't matter how many games he's played. Just like Bryce Harper a year ago, everybody (except the Giants, maybe) wants to see this phenom on the big stage.
Û Our question: Why is anybody throwing strikes to Puig? He has three walks in 94 plate appearances, one of those intentional. Here, pal, try this one over your head.
Û The notion that Oregon got off light with NCAA sanctions doesn't wash here. The threat of harsher sanctions chased away Chip Kelly, and Kelly's loss will be significant. Watch and see.
Û The Blackhawks' parade crowd in Chicago was extraordinary. Then again, think about it. You'd rather wait on the Cubs to celebrate a title?
Û Only at Wimbledon would you have a slippery grass controversy. Funny how it didn't affect the No. 1 seeds.
Û Finally, Roger Federer. Check that fancy Rolex, dude. Time to retire before it starts to get really ugly.
