LIVERMORE -- A Livermore man sustained major injuries and faces DUI charges after a rollover crash Friday that ejected him nearly 70 feet from where his car came to rest, police said.
Officers were called at 7:30 p.m. Friday to Las Positas Road on a report of a major injury crash, said Sgt. John Hurd.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford sedan driven by Marcos Garcia, 40, crossed into the eastbound traffic lane and traveled off the roadway, Hurd said. The car then drove through a fence, rolled several times and finally came to rest in a field, Hurd said.
Garcia, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was propelled from the vehicle over a 6-foot-tall fence before landing near a second fence on a driveway in the 4000 block of Las Positas Road.
Although he suffered major injuries, they are not considered life threatening, Hurd said.
Garcia was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital, where he was cited and released on suspicion of driving under the influence, Hurd said.
The crash closed Las Positas Road for several hours.
