BOULDER CREEK -- A man pushed a clerk and robbed a smoke shop of cash, cigarettes and glass pipes on Saturday in Boulder Creek.
About 2 p.m., a 24-year-old woman who works at Boulder Creek Smoke Shoppe at 13158 Hwy. 9 came back to the store from a break, said Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputy April Skalland.
She noticed a man outside the stop who wore pink pants, a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black sunglasses, black-and-red socks and no shoes.
She went in the store, then went outside to smoke a cigarette. When she started back inside, a man grabbed her and pushed her inside the shop.
She felt a hard object against her back and believed it was a gun, although she never saw a gun, Skalland said. The woman was terrified as he demanded cash from the register and elsewhere in the shop, deputies said.
She gave him money, and he filled a backpack with other items from the shop before he fled across Highway 9.
The woman was not injured.
Deputies described the suspect as a white man in his 20s who was 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with an average build.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to call dispatch at 831-471-1121.
