A boat inspection in the Oakland-Alameda Estuary led to the arrest of a man on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, police said.
It happened about 1:10 p.m. Saturday in Oakland's 2400 block of Embarcadero, near Union Point Park. The 47-year-old man let officers search the vessel, where they found the suspected methamphetamine packaged for sale, police said. The amount or its street value was not immediately available.
THURSDAY, JULY 4 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 35, on suspicion of drunken driving after a traffic stop just after 1 a.m. in the 1100 block of Post Street. ILLEGAL FIREWORKS -- Three men who were in a vehicle fleeing the scene where fireworks had just been set off were arrested in the 1700 block of St. Charles Street, police said. The men, who are 21, 23 and 25, were also allegedly in possession of fireworks. Each was cited and released at the scene. It happened about 3:20 a.m. DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 48, and a woman, 47, on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia in the 1800 block of Everett Street. The woman appeared high, while the man was also believed in possession of heroin when officers initially detained them about 6:35 p.m. as suspicious persons. FIREARM DISCHARGE -- Someone discharging a firearm sent what police described as an "unknown projectile" through the roof of a home in the 3000 block of Fernside Boulevard. The incident was reported just after 10 p.m.
FRIDAY, JULY 5 EXPLOSIVE DEVICE -- Someone set off fireworks inside a mailbox at Sixth Street and Lincoln Avenue, damaging the box and its contents, police said. The incident was reported at 2:40 a.m. Another mailbox was damaged with an explosive device in the 1700 block of Purcell Drive. It was reported about 7:30 a.m. VEHICLE BURGLARY -- A 25-year-old man was arrested just before 9 a.m. in the 1700 block of Buena Vista Avenue after he was caught in someone's vehicle searching for valuables, police said. The man, who was also drunk, had removed items from the glove compartment and center console while carrying out the search, police said. BURGLARY ARREST -- Police arrested a man, 23, on suspicion of burglary about 11:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Whitehall Place. The victim reported that the man had tried to enter her home through the screen door and was possibly on her roof, where officers arrested him. Along with attempted burglary, the man was arrested for public intoxication. BURGLARY -- A residential burglary was reported about 3:35 p.m. in the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue. The burglar apparently entered through an unlocked window, police said.
SATURDAY, JULY 6 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of drunken driving after a traffic stop just before 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of Park Street. Another man, 19, was arrested on suspicion of the same offense at 11:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Pacific Avenue, where he failed field sobriety tests after he was involved in a traffic collision, police said. RESISTING POLICE -- A man, 39, allegedly provided police with a false name to avoid being taken into custody on two felony warrants before his actual identity was discovered and he was arrested. It happened about 7:50 a.m. in the 1800 block of Poggi Street, where the man was also illegally in possession of pepper spray, police said. IDENTITY THEFT -- Identity theft was reported about 8:15 p.m. in the 800 block of Haight Avenue, where someone used the victim's personal information in an attempt to open a line of credit.
SUNDAY, JULY 7 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a woman, 25, on suspicion of drunken driving after a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. in the 2400 block of Santa Clara Avenue. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 9:25 a.m. in the 1600 block of Pacific Avenue. Vehicles were also reported stolen at noon in the 2000 block of Eagle Avenue and about 6:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Paru Street. DRUG PARAPHERNALIA -- A man whom officers contacted on his boat because they knew he was on probation and could be searched was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they found the paraphernalia under a mattress of the 41-year-old man's vessel in the 2200 block of Clement Avenue. The arrest occurred at 11:15 a.m. PETTY THEFT -- Police arrested a woman, 75, on suspicion of petty theft after she allegedly stole multiple items of jewelry and clothing from Kohl's at Alameda South Shore Center by concealing them in her purse. The arrest occurred about 12:50 p.m. MARIJUANA POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 22, on suspicion of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana after a traffic stop about 3:46 a.m. in the 2900 block of Glasscock Street, which is in Oakland near the Fruitvale Bridge. Another man, 21, was arrested on suspicion of the same offense during a traffic stop at 10:50 a.m. in the 600 block of Buena Vista Avenue.
