SAN LEANDRO -- A San Leandro man was arrested on suspicion of murder Wednesday after police investigating a report of domestic violence Sunday found his 60-year-old wife dead, police said.

Zoann Shipp, 42, was arrested at a hospital three days after officers found his wife dead in the 15200 block of Hesperian Blvd., Lt. Robert McManus said. Police responded to the home about 4:15 p.m. Sunday after a caller reported possible domestic violence occurring inside, McManus said.

Once inside, officers found the woman unresponsive, and arriving paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Shipp, meanwhile, was nowhere to be found, McManus said, and detectives issued a felony search warrant for the man.

Shipp was arrested without incident and taken to Santa Rita Jail, McManus said. He is being held without bail.

Detectives were planning to meet with Alameda County prosecutors on Friday to present their case for charging.

"Crimes of domestic violence often go unreported to police and such as in this case, sometimes end in tragedy," McManus said. "We offer our condolences to the victim's family and friends."

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to call San Leandro police at 510-577-2740, or the anonymous tip line at 510-577-3278. Residents may also text a tip from a cellphone to "847411," including the letters "SLPD" and any anonymous information.
