BERKELEY -- A man was shot and killed Wednesday night in the 1800 block of Derby Street, a police dispatcher said.

The man was found suffering from gunshot wounds around 6:52 p.m. and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

Police have said what led to the shooting or released any information on suspects. Detectives are canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses, according to a police department news release. Anyone with information on the fatal shooting is asked to call Berkeley police's homicide detail at 510-981-5741.

This is the city's third homicide this year.
