WALNUT CREEK -- A man and woman suspected of creating a fake residential lease, stealing the identity of a previous homeowner and living at the home with an assault rifle were arrested Thursday, police said.

Police were called on Monday to 620 Sugarloaf Court in Walnut Creek for a report of two people living in an home that was previously vacated.

Officers spoke to the occupants, who showed them what was later determined to be a fraudulent lease for the home. Looking into the case, officers determined the identity of the former homeowner had been stolen and the fraudulent lease was created with that identification.

Police also found an assault rifle in the home.

The Contra Costa District Attorney's office issued arrest warrants, and police on Thursday arrested Sydney James Jones Jr., 30, and Natalie Marie Neith, 22, on suspicion of burglary, forgery and trespassing.

Two others who were living at the home remain at large, but their names and ages were not released by police.

Possession of the home was returned to the rightful owner, police said.
