FREMONT -- A motorcyclist suffered major injuries after colliding with a Lexus SUV during the peak of commuter traffic Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to northbound Interstate 880 near Warren Avenue around 5:08 p.m. for reports of a two-car collision blocking the two left lanes.

The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with major injuries, but details on their condition remain unknown. No one else was injured.

Lanes were cleared around 6:01 p.m., but traffic remains congested, according to the CHP.

It is unknown what caused the crash.
