FREMONT -- A woman who was trapped in a car that collided with a dump truck early Tuesday morning suffered major injuries but is expected to survive, police said.

The wreck took place at 5:16 a.m. on westbound Auto Mall Parkway. A third car was involved but investigators were still determining its role in the crash.

Police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said the dump truck jumped the center median along the roadway and struck a white Acura. The driver of the Acura, a 25-year-old San Jose woman, was extricated from the vehicle, which was totaled. Her name was not released.

The driver of the truck was not injured, Bosques said.

Auto Mall Parkway was closed in the westbound direction between Fremont and Grimmer boulevards for several hours but has since reopened, police Sgt. Jeff Swadener said.

All eastbound lanes on Auto Mall Parkway are open.

Police are investigating the wreck and the cause of the crash was not known, Bosques said.
