SAN LEANDRO -- A fleeing suspect driving near the San Leandro and Oakland borders crashed into an Oakland liquor store Sunday night and injured at least one person, police said.

The chase started as San Leandro police officers attempted to stop a vehicle about 11:15 p.m. near 105th and Edes avenues, just over the Oakland city limit, for a traffic violation, according to Lt. Randy Brandt. The car instead sped away from police, officers said.

The driver of the vehicle -- who police identified as Jermain Robinson, 31, of Oakland -- collided into another vehicle a few blocks away at 98th and Edes avenues before crashing into Brookfield Discount Liquor.

One person in the vehicle the suspect struck was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries, Brandt said. Brandt did not give information on the person's age or gender or say if they were a driver or passenger.

Brandt also did not say what type of vehicle Robinson drove during the chase or what type of vehicle he struck before crashing into the store.

Robinson was booked into the Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of evading police, Brandt said.
