HERCULES -- A 29-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges after he allegedly left the scene of an accident and later took a swing at a police officer, authorities said.
Police began trailing Travis Caruso on Sunday at 10:50 p.m. after receiving a report of a hit-and-run on the 2100 block of Redwood Road. Officers caught up with the Benicia resident, who was driving on two flat tires, in the parking lot of the Hercules Library on Sycamore Avenue, where he showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Caruso, who refused a sobriety test, allegedly attempted to punch an officer before a police technician arrived to draw a blood sample, according to police.
He was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, driving under the influence of alcohol and attempted battery on a police officer.
