HERCULES -- A big rig and at least two other vehicles were involved in a multicar wreck Wednesday morning that caused the connector between Interstate 80 and westbound Highway 4 to be closed for almost three hours, the California Highway Patrol said.
Nobody was injured in the wreck, which involved at least one vehicle winding up on its roof and another on fire, the CHP said. Details about how the wreck unfolded just after 5:40 a.m. were not available, and the CHP could not confirm immediately how many cars were involved.
The ramp connecting Highway 4 to both routes of I-80 was closed after the crash and did not reopen until about 8:30 a.m.
Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews responded and put out a the fire, according to a dispatcher. That car was engulfed in flames before it was extinguished, but the driver escaped.
