ANTIOCH -- A bicyclist was hospitalized with major injuries Monday after being hit by a car in Antioch, police said.

Officers responded about 1:20 p.m. to the area of James Donlon Boulevard just east of G Street after callers reported a person had been hit on their bike, Antioch Police Sgt. Tarra Nissen said. The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was found severely injured in the street and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

According to Nissen, witness statements suggest that the bicyclist may have been at fault in the crash. The driver stayed on scene and was fully cooperative with police, and showed no obvious signs of impairment.

Both directions of James Donlon Boulevard were closed after the incident, Nissen said. The investigation is ongoing.
