ANTIOCH -- An 18-year-old man suspected of crashing his car into an Antioch swimming pool with two teens in tow was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Saturday, police said.

David Martinez was booked into County Jail about 1 a.m. Saturday after he and a friend were found walking in soaking wet clothes down Lone Tree Way near the Antioch Community Center, Cpl. James McMurry said.

Police said that about 25 minutes earlier, the teen crashed his car through a fence in the 4500 block of Elkhorn Way and landed in a backyard swimming pool.

Martinez and two other boys, who are not being named because they are minors, were able to escape the submerged vehicle and climb out of the pool, McMurry said. One 17-year-old passenger stayed on scene and was treated by paramedics for minor injuries, but Martinez and a 16-year-old boy took off down the street.

The residents of the damaged home were not injured in the incident, nor were any surrounding neighbors, police said.

Officers linked the teens to the accident using evidence collected at the scene, and Martinez was arrested on site, McMurry said. Both speed and alcohol are thought to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
