PITTSBURG -- A man with alleged associations with a criminal street gang was shot to death late Friday night in the city's first homicide of 2014, police said.
The 36-year-old victim was identified by the Contra Costa Coroner's Office as 36-year-old Selvis Zuniga. Police said he had known gang ties and had survived a previous shooting.
Officers found Zuniga suffering from a gunshot wound in his chest after being called to the 2900 block of Stevenson Street, between Alvarado and Atherton avenues at 9:15 p.m., police said.
Zuniga was pronounced dead at the scene after police tried to save him, Pittsburg police Lt. Ron Raman said. Police said he was walking near his home when he was shot.
Detectives are continuing to investigate, and anyone with information is urged to call Pittsburg police at 925-252-4813.
The homicide was the first in Pittsburg since August.
