A driver hit a deer Friday morning, then crashed into two other cars on Highway 84, prompting the closure of all westbound lanes for more than an hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 6 a.m. near the Vallecitos Nuclear Center, located between Highway 680 and Livermore, after a driver struck a deer, then lost control of their vehicle, said CHP Sgt. Barbara Butler. The car then crossed into oncoming traffic and hit two vehicles.

All westbound lanes were closed, but commuters were allowed to use the eastbound turn lane to move around the crash site.

Despite that, traffic was backed up to East Vineyard Road, according to Butler.

One person suffered minor injuries. The road was reopened by 7:38 a.m.
