HAYWARD -- A Hayward resident was pistol-whipped and robbed of his car this weekend, less than 10 minutes after an attempted carjacking nearby, police said.
The victim was expected to recover from his injuries, police said.
Officers were dispatched at 7:20 p.m. on Sunday night to the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Drive in north Hayward for a report of a carjacking, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.
The victim told officers he got out of his Nissan Versa and that a man approached him, pistol whipped him and then stole his car.
Police described the suspect as a black man, 6-feet 2-inches tall, 170 pounds with a skinny build and dark complexion. He wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark shoes and was armed with a silver revolver.
About eight minutes earlier, just a few blocks away on Alice Street at Meek Avenue, a man matching that same description tried to carjack another person but failed, Ormsby said.
Police believe both incidents were related and said they remained under investigation on Monday.
Officers located the stolen car on Monday morning in the 1100 black of Central Boulevard near Maitland Drive.
