SAN LEANDRO -- Firefighters tackled an early morning blaze at an abandoned home in unincorporated San Leandro that fire investigators say was started by squatters.
No one was injured, and the fire appears to be accidental.
Fire crews were dispatched at 4:30 a.m. to the two-story home in the 1600 block of 153rd Avenue near Fairmont Drive, Alameda County Fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
The one-alarm blaze started inside a bedroom of the single-family home, Knowles said, and was put out shortly before 5 a.m.
It was not immediately known how many squatters were responsible for the fire or if any of them were inside the abandoned home when the fire broke out.
The blaze does not appear suspicious in nature, Knowles said.
