Edwin Delatorre, 26, was arrested in Hayward on suspicion of several counts of felony and misdemeanor hit-and-run, reckless driving, speeding and running a red light, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
The incident began about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, when Delatorre reportedly drove his red Ford Mustang and struck the Parc 55 Hotel at Mason and Eddy streets and then hit a Muni bus near that intersection, Shyy said. He continued driving to Market and Fifth streets, where he struck a male pedestrian, who was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say Delatorre then ran a red light and struck another pedestrian at Kearny and Market streets. The second pedestrian was also taken to the hospital but was expected to live.
Delatorre made it to Kearny and Pine streets, where he bailed out of his car and fled on foot, Shyy said.
Investigators were able to track the car's registration and found Delatorre at his Hayward home, where he was arrested, Shyy said.
The male pedestrian who was seriously injured remained hospitalized in critical condition on Monday. The other pedestrian has since been released, Shyy said.
